For those who are interested in advancing California's roots Americana music, CalAmericana welcomes volunteers for specific projects, and new Board members to contribute to policy development and long-term projects.  CalAmericana values its volunteers as any non-profit does and rewards their contributions with a free membership.  Information below describes the Association's current projects and is followed by contact information.

  1. CalAmericana Festival: This festival will take place from October 1 to October 10, 2010 and showcase California roots Americana bands at 10-20 venues throughout the Bay Area.  CalAmericana's Events Committee is well into the planning and booking of the festival; additional volunteers are needed to manage and support each festival show.

  2. Site Development: A volunteer with WordPress experience is needed to upgrade this site.  This upgrade is more concerned with staging than development since the WP template that fits most of the site's requirements has already been developed.

  3. List Development: Building and maintaining lists of bands, venues, festivals, DJs, bloggers and music resources is an on-going effort.  Much information has already been gathered as can be seen on the Bands, Venues and other pages on this site.  Volunteers are needed to add further information to the new searchable databases that are under development.

  4. Publicity: A Board member is being sought to provide overall coordination and provide leadership and guidance to the Publicity Committee that is already in place.  Individual volunteers are needed for specific contributions to web, print and other communications projects.

  5. Membership: A Board member is needed to manage membership and coordinate membership development projects and provide direction for the Membership Committee.  Individual volunteers are needed to participate in various membership projects.

  6. Development: CalAmericana has identified donors, sponsors, grants and fund raising events to contribute to the financing of the organization. A Board member is needed to establish a Development Committee, manage development projects and coordinate donor affairs.  Individual volunteers are sought to participate in various Development Committee projects.

  7. Southern California Chapter:  CalAmericana is seeking Board members and volunteers located in Southern California to build the Southern California chapter.

  8. (Your Idea Here): There is an ample pool of ideas for what the CalAmericana Association can do to further the interests of California's roots Americana music.  Some come from our Board, others from the membership, and others come from interested parties.  Here are some examples.  CalAmericana could publish compilation CDs, syndicate a radio show, or produce a television show.  CalAmericana could publish a hardcopy newsletter, offer members' CDs and merchandise through this site, work with youth music programs to nurture young musicians and, well, you get the idea; or perhaps you've already got an idea.

Even the best of ideas will only languish without the means to turn them to action.  If you have an idea for a project and some thoughts for how to implement it, you'll find CalAmericana open to almost any project that supports its
    mission.

As for ideas 1-7 above, implementation plans are already in place, yet any volunteer is going to want to know, "What, specifically do you want me to do and how much time do you expect it to take?  Fair enough.  Let CalAmericana know your interests and a response with specifics will follow within a day.  And, yes, your efforts will be rewarded with a membership, and the appreciation of California's roots Americana Community.
